Inflation is a tax nobody voted for

Transcript

Inflation is the rise in prices over time. At three percent a year, what costs one hundred today costs about one thirty four in ten years. If your savings earn nothing, they lose that buying power. Governments with large debts benefit, because the real value of what they owe shrinks. Nobody voted for that transfer. It simply happens. This is why economists call inflation a hidden tax.

The takeaway

Cash that sits still is quietly losing ground.
